UFC Champ Anderson Silva Plans to Stay at Middleweight

Anderson SilvaUFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva has dismissed talk of a potential move up to light heavyweight or heavyweight, saying that he plans to remain at 185-pounds after defending his title against Chael Sonnen at UFC 117.

“I like my weight division that I fight in, and I’m prepared to stay in my weight division,” Silva said through his manager Ed Soares during a call to promote the August 7 headliner.

Despite a highly-criticized title defense over Demian Maia in April, Silva (26-4) insisted he’s not bored fighting at middleweight, where he’s earned six successful title defenses and scored the bulk of his record 11-straight UFC wins.

As for potential superfights with welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre and light heavyweight title-holder Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Silva says they’ll need to meet him at 185-pounds, where he says he plans to remain until he retires.
